Before Your First Class
At LoveYoga we want you to feel comfortable the minute you walk in the door. Here are some hints and tips before your first class
Do I need to bring a yoga mat?
No. Yoga mats and belts are provided at the studio. If you own your own mat, however, and would like to bring it with you, you're certainly welcome to do so. Many students who practice regularly do bring their own mat for hygienic reasons. It is also recommended to bring a scarf or a cosy shawl/cardigan for the more restorative part of the class and the meditation practice.
Class Etiquette / Changing Rooms
Please arrive a few minutes before the start of the class. This will give you time to relax and settle in the studio space. If you need to change in a more private space please use the toilet located right opposite to the studio, at the concierge. Please respect others by keeping personal hygiene.
Parking at Burrell's Wharf
If you drive, you can park outside the studio at Burrell's Wharf at the spaces labelled as for visitors only. Please remember that you must obtain a visitors parking permit from the Estate Office each time you visit. The permit must be displayed on the dashboard and the vehicle must park in a visitor's bay only.
How can I pay for the drop-in class on Mondays?
For a single class we accept cash only. The payment can be done at the end of the class. If you would like to purchase the '5+1 class pass' you can do it either with cash after the class or via bank transfer before the class. Please e-mail me to request my bank information.
What if I am late for the class?
Ideally, it is best to arrive a few minutes before the class and start the class on time to benefit from the warm up. But if you are late up to 5 minutes is ok. Please respect others and join in quietly.
What to eat?
It is recommended to refrain from eating for at least 2-3 hours before the class start. This is because yoga on a full stomach may feel uncomfortable and might restrict some movements. If you are hungry, particularly before the evening class, try to eat a healthy and light snack such as a fruit or yoghurt or have your lunch a bit later than usually. Ensure to drink plenty of water during the day to keep yourself well hydrated during the class.
What to Wear?
It is best to wear comfortable workout clothes such as yoga pants/shorts, t-shirts, tank tops or leggins. It is important for you to feel at ease and be able to stretch and move in your outfit comfortably. It is also a good idea to wear layers, since your body temperature will warm up during the practice and cool down during the relaxation phase. Yoga is practiced on bare feet.
I am inflexible, can I do yoga?
There isn't any prerequisite to start practicing yoga. As long as you breathe you can do it, and there is always a way to modify each posture to suit your particular needs and abilities. Flexibility (as well as strength!) is one of the many products of yoga, certainly not a prerequisite, and most people who start yoga are inflexible to various degrees. In fact, the more stiff or weak we feel the more we need yoga to regain and sustain flexibility, strength and peace of mind in the long term. "Practice, practice, practice and all it coming!". Enjoy the process! :)
